Graduate / Junior Lawyer – Commercial & Technology Focus – Fixed Term Project Role with Potential for ongoing position
We are looking for a recent graduate or junior lawyer to join our team, initially to support an ongoing contracts compliance project, but with a view to expand into our broader practice. This role is initially for a fixed period of 3 months, and for the right person there a potential opportunity to extend into an ongoing position.
Most of our work focusses on commercial contracts, especially in the software and technology space, but we also provide broad general legal support to many of our clients. One day we might be drafting a SaaS agreement, the next we could be helping navigate a privacy query, or digging into an unfamiliar area of law for a business project. We also work closely with other boutique firms to provide other specialist services, particularly in M&A and corporate transactions, where there may be further opportunities to grow.
What you’ll be doing
The main scope of this role will be reviewing contract documents to support one of our client’s key compliance projects. This task will expose you to the workings of commercial contracts, risk management and contract administration systems.
Where time permits and opportunities arise, you could also be involved in:
drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of commercial contracts, with a focus on software, SaaS, and technology;
drafting M&A related documents on both sell and buy side transactions; and
jumping into new or unexpected areas of commercial law (employment, IP, property, governance) and helping figure things out; and
helping improve our templates, processes, and ways of working.
What we’re looking for
A recent graduate up to ~2 years’ post-admission experience, ideally with exposure to commercial contracts or transactions. Experience or an interest in software or technology contracting or licensing is even better.
Curiosity and confidence to tackle new areas of law and business.
Clear communication skills – someone who can explain the legal stuff in a way clients understand.
Someone who enjoys building and maintaining client relationships as well as those between their work colleagues.
Someone who is disciplined, organised and committed to being their best, but might not be keen to get locked into the traditional law firm pressure-cooker.
A practical, solutions-focused mindset (not just spotting problems).
A team player who’s happy to pitch in wherever needed.
A good sense of humour.
What you’ll get
The chance to get direct experience working on an important compliance project.
Exposure opportunities to across a wide variety of industries and issues.
Close collaboration with clients: you won’t be stuck behind the scenes.
Support and mentoring to help you build your skills quickly.
A small, friendly team that values initiative, flexibility, and common sense.
Exposure to the business side of legal work, not just the technical detail.
About US
A lot of law firms claim to practise law differently. We actually do, and have been successfully doing it for years. We are a non-traditional legal consulting company with a strong commercial focus working with sophisticated clients. We care about our clients, our people, and the quality of our work. Working with us, you are not judged on your billable hours or what time you get to the office, nor on where you're working from. We value family, happiness and achievement. We don’t wear suits, nor do we believe being chained to your desk all day makes you more productive. We believe that if you are happy and relaxed, you will deliver much better results for our clients. We understand that to develop and be your best, you need to receive quality mentoring and train with those who have been well-trained.
